A special food: Yuanxiao(tangyuan).(吃元宵/汤圆) It is made from glutinous rice (sticky rice, sweet rice, waxy rice) flour. 由糯米粉做成 Flour is mixed with a small amount of water to form balls and is then cooked and served in boiling water. (糯米粉,加水,和成面,包成圆球形,在滚水中煮熟,可以吃了)。 It can be either small or large,

glutinous rice flour(糯米粉):
The main ingredient is glutinous rice flour(主要材料是糯米粉). sesame,peanuts, sweet bean paste(芝麻,花生,豆沙泥做餡) Northern variations mix sesame,peanuts, sweet bean paste and place them into bamboo baskets with rice flour, sprinkle water continuously on the rice flour to form the fillings and form round balls.(在北方,叫元宵,是竹筐里滚出来滴) During the Ming Dynasty, the name was officially settled as yuanxiao, which is used in northern China, Southern variations are typically larger, and are made by wrapping the filling into sticky rice flour wrapping and crumpling them into balls.(南方地区,是包出来的,叫汤圆) In southern China, however, they are called tangyuan or tangtuan.
